American Studies majors are eligible for several scholarships that are administered by the Office of Financial Aid.
The Thomas J. Stritch Scholarship honors a long-time faculty member at Notre Dame, who made the study of modern American culture a central focus of his work. His courses served as the foundation for the first ones offered by American Studies when it became a department. This scholarship is awarded to students in American Studies with a strong academic record and a commitment to the major.
The Red Smith Scholarship honors the Pulitzer Prize-winning sportswriter, who was graduated from Notre Dame in 1927. This scholarship, which students in American Studies or journalism can receive, is awarded for excellence in writing as determined by a committee of judges.
The Paul Fullmer Scholarship honors a distinguished professional in communications, who is a 1955 Notre Dame Alumnus. This scholarship, which is available to American Studies or journalism students, is awarded to students of high achievement with an interest in a career in communications.
