2021 Sheedy Award

Kathleen Sprows Cummings has been selected as the winner of the 2021 Sheedy Excellence in Teaching Award — the College’s highest teaching honor.

She is the Rev. John A. O’Brien Collegiate Professor of American Studies and History and the William W. and Anna Jean Cushwa Director of the Cushwa Center for the Study of American Catholicism, with concurrent appointments in Gender Studies and the Department of Theology. Her teaching and research interests center on the history of Catholicism in the United States, the study of American women, and the relationship between religion and American society.

The Sheedy Award was founded in 1970 in honor of Rev. Charles E. Sheedy, C.S.C., who served as dean of the College from 1951–69. The award ceremony is scheduled for Tuesday, Dec. 7, at 3:30 p.m. in McKenna Hall.
