Americana publishes undergraduate papers and projects that come from the fields of AMST or JED, broadly considered. Our journal features four genres (articles, essays, theses, and multimedia) to engage a variety of readers. Americana seeks to acknowledge the high-quality and diverse undergraduate research of AMST and JED undergrad students, encourage students to conduct research that explores both popular and academic curiosities relating to American Studies, foster an interdisciplinary conversation between students, past and present, and provide opportunities for undergraduate publication.
We are seeking an assistant editor to support the editor-in-chief, faculty advisors, and journal at large. Americana is a brand-new journal being launched during the 2020-2021 academic year, which means that assistant editor responsibilities are not yet finalized, but may include selecting pieces for publication, refining those pieces, and assembling a high-quality academic journal. This will be a wonderful opportunity to gain valuable hands on experience with creating an online and print publication. This position will require leadership skills, creative thinking, dependability, and responsiveness. The position is unpaid and a full academic year commitment.
The application is open to all AMST and JED students. Priority will be given to first year and sophomore JED students. Strongest applicants will have graphic design and magazine layout skills.

- Letter of interest, especially highlighting relevant experience (1-2 pages, double-spaced)
- (not required) Examples of past projects that engaged graphic design or magazine layout skills
