Expert on history of Irish-America to give keynote lecture at Casement Gathering '17

A leading US expert on the story of Irish-America is set to deliver the keynote lecture at this year's Tionól Mhic Easmainn (The Casement Gathering) in a must for history fans far and wide.

The annual celebration of the great patriot takes place at The Meadowlands Hotel on Friday next, September 15, from 8pm, organised by a committee long dedicated to ensuring a prominent place for his memory in the county of his fateful 1916 mission.

Dr Robert Schmuhl of Notre Dame University, Indiana - author of Ireland's Exiled Children: America and the Easter Rising and a regular contributor to RTÉ Radio One's Morning Ireland - will deliver the keynote lecture entitled Saving Roger Casement: The Exiled Children's Misplaced Trust.

The Tionól will be officially opened by Dr Tim Horgan, Tralee, who will give an introductory talk on 'Tomás Ághas/Thomas Ashe', the Irish patriot from Lios Póil who fought in 1916 Rising and who died while on hunger strike a centenary ago.
