Robert Schmuhl

Robert Schmuhl, Walter H. Annenberg-Edmund P. Joyce Chair in American Studies and Journalism, received the 2010 Frank O'Malley Undergraduate Teaching Award, the only University-wide honor given for teaching. The award, first given in 1994, is "presented to a faculty member who exhibits the ideals of Frank O'Malley by demonstrating a commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching."

The award memorializes Frank O'Malley, the legendary teacher of the humanities at Notre Dame for over 40 years. The recipient is nominated by under-graduates, approved by Student Government, and receives the award at the annual Student Leadership banquet. The recipient is announced and recognized at the University's commencement ceremony in May.

Schmuhl is the first member of the American Studies faculty to receive the O'Malley Award.
